Adventure lovers and lovers of snow fields are great fans of the sports of skiing and snowboarding. No matter you are a novice or a pro in any of the two sports, you have to get yourself mentally and physically prepared appropriately to experience that ultimate adventure. If you want to do extremely well in any of these sports, you have to be consistent in improving your skill and performance level and get a hard training. Apart from that, you also need to follow the safety requirements strictly.

More than 100,000 people get injured every year during their skiing or snowboarding trips and for this reason, you should know all the hows and what’s to be safe on the snow. First of all, you should wear proper clothes which should be water resistant and also wind resistant. Wide collar to protect the face and adjustable zippers or strings are also expected features.

You should also mind the weather conditions before going out on your skiing or snowboarding expedition. Chilly temperatures at the top of the hills can make a change in your heart beat and if the temperature is too cold there, it may become intolerable for you and you may loose your consciousness. Therefore, you should always keep your head covered with a helmet or a headband and also remember to wear the gloves too.

Since you need snow to both ski and snowboard, you will get exposed to very cold weathers and so, you need to dress yourself with utmost care. First of all, you should wear clothes in many layers and apart from that; you should also wear a comfortable outfit inside that is made of absorbent fabric. This will absorb the sweat on your body and you will be left dry and comfortable.

Apart from all this, your eyes should also be well protected with appropriate eye gear including goggles or sunglasses. If your eyes are not covered, then you will probably close them during your way down the hill because of the wind, and this may prove to be disastrous for you. That is why; it is very significant to wear appropriate eye gear during both your skiing or snowboarding trips.

Last of all, you should have a good sleep in the night before the day you are going on your snowboard or ski trip. This is because you have to be always alert while on the slopes and if you are tired, you have more chances to make mistakes and thus become victim of an unwanted accident.

The beautiful sight of the Ten Mile Range is one of many reasons to plan a trip to Breckenridge. It will surely captivate your attention whether you’re gazing at it for the first time or the hundredth. The recreational activities are also something that draws visitors to Breckenridge. Breckenridge seems to shed its old face and put on a new one every time the town gets together in celebration. If you’re considering a visit to Colorado’s 149-year-old Victorian paradise, there will be no dull moments as there’s always something to celebrate in Breckenridge.

There may be no better way to embrace the new year in Breckenridge than with a twenty ton snow sculpture in the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships. This annual event, coming to its 18th year now, brings together only the most creative artists to turn plain chunks of snow into a works of art. Sculptors from all over the world invade the town for five days to create majestic 12-foot tall masterpieces with just their two hands and a few permitted non-power tools such as carrot scraper and chicken wire. A panel of judges then present awards to the top three teams based on style, theme, and technique. Championships will be held from January 20-25, 2009 in the middle of town at the Riverwalk Center.

There’s always a reason to celebrate after a wonderful ski season; thus comes the Spring Massive. This year’s eighth annual festival will be held from April 1-19, 2009. Breckenridge is a town that holds the annual event of the Spring Massive to delight in the year’s snow fall. Whether it’s through live entertainment or just a day of spring skiing, this event always makes it easy for anyone to have an enjoyable time. Town happenings include free outdoor concerts, ski competitions, the Massive Beer Festival, Comedy and a Bite of Breckenridge, to name just a few.

The previous year wrapped up the 24th annual Genuine Jazz and Arts Festival in Breckenridge. This event involves wine tasting, hot music and enjoyable summer nights. Different group of performers are always chosen to create a multi-genre celebration of all things jazz including smooth jazz, fusion, and mainstream. People come together every year for this free event in the Plaza above Maggie Pond, held normally during a weekend in August.

Neighboring towns join together in the fall to pay tribute to the traditional German celebration of Oktoberfest and Breckenridge is one that makes this event truly spectacular. Offering time-honored German music, delightful Bavarian food, entertaining kids’ activities and endless stock of beer, Breckenridge has been celebrating Oktoberfest for fifteen years now. Grab your beer stein, pull on your lederhosen and from September 18-20, 2009, head over to Breckenridge for some incredible mountain fun.

Winter certainly brings a reason to celebrate in genuine Breckenridge style. The start of December marks the official announcement of Breckenridge that the holiday season has arrived with its Victorian Holiday celebration. Competitions on the Breckenridge Ski Resort and craft workshops are held and of course, the holiday season would not be complete without the yearly Lighting of Breckenridge on Main Street.

The celebrations in Breckenridge are endless and absolutely entertaining. Since all of these events are held in the hub of the town, you will surely find Breckenridge accommodations that will put you within walking distance to the venue or get access to public transportation that will shuttle you there for free. No matter what season you go to Breckenridge, have fun with the town by taking part in its various entertaining celebrations.

If you never learned how to slalom water ski before you became a mother, donat worry: itas not too late. Thereas no rule that says you must be single, svelte (or even blonde) to take waterski lessons! The fact that you have given birth actually means youare probably better qualified for the sport, because anyone who has experienced the pain of labor will hardly notice slapping the water at 40 mph during a waterskiing wipeout!

If youare going to buy your own water skiing equipment, make sure you buy it from someone you can trust. You donat have to buy new equipment, but you want safe, lightly-used equipment. You need skis that fit well and were made for the kind of waters kiing youare planning on doing. The grip on the rope should feel good in your hands, and the rope should be kink and rip-free.

Donat worry how you look out on the lake. This isnat a fashion show. You want something with a lot of coverage that will keep you warm, since youall be wet with the wind blowing on you. This will also help you keep from getting sunburned all over, not to mention ogled. Besides, once you have a life preserver on, no one cares how you look.

When it comes to attire, remember: youare not looking to win any swimsuit competitions. Instead, you want to protect yourself from the elements and from falls. Any water sports shop should be able to outfit you in a suit that will not only keep you warm but will slenderize; you can choose one that also has the extra, added bonus of covering up those stretch marks!

Now that you know the hand signals, have the rights ski, a sturdy grip and rope, and a life jacket, you are ready to find a driver. You will want someone who has done this before. Towing a water skier requires knowing the hand signals and the ability to speed up in the right way. Once you are up, he will have to keep a steady speed and make only gradual turns.

This is complicated enough without having the driver and skier learning how to do this at the same time. Even with an experienced driver you arenat going to become an amazing skier in one try. Thatas okay. Your kids will be happy that you had the courage to try.

The next most important thing is another famous mother mantra: apractice makes perfect. a Get on the water as often as you can, and when you canat be out there, be on shore paying attention to the other skiers to see how they manage it. Practice the hand signals and do strengthening exercises while on land; they will come in handy once youare in the water and not just to make your arms jiggle less, either.

Before you know it youall have gone from Boring Shore Lady to Slalom Mom. When you go out with your family and have fun, youall have the kind of joy-filled memories you always hope for from vacations. And this is one less thing your kids will poke fun at you for!

If you enjoy snow sports then there is definitely one state that is for you. Colorado is located in the rocky mountain areas and only about half of this state is flat. This plus its climate gives you the perfect set up for all those winter sports that you love doing. Among the things that you can find yourself doing in Colorado will of course include skiing and snowboarding.

Different areas in Colorado receive different amounts of snowfall but it averages at least a hundred; and even more for some areas. This plus about three hundred days of sunshine and the most skiable terrain provides for nothing but fun. Of course some of the most popular sports will include your classic downhill ski but you can all three types of cross country skiing.

There are about twenty six ski areas to choose from which also means that you do not have to limit yourself to skiing alone. Snowboarding can be done which is most popular among the younger generation but enjoyed by many adults as well. There is also dog sledding which can be fun for those people who love animals and the snow as well.

The fun in Colorado does not stop with the snow. There are a number of festivals and shows and fairs that you can take part in. These will make sure that your trip is both fun and memorable at the same time. Craft shows, fair s or festivals are perfect places to find that souvenir to take home to your family and friends; or to keep for yourself so that you will always have something to look back at.

If your interest for these craft fairs goes beyond shopping, then you will still find a place for you in Colorado fairs. It’s normal for both residents and non residents to take part in such things. It will be a good chance for you to let your creativity flow and share with others what you do best .Aside from watching others enjoy your creations you will also be making some extra money on the side.

Terje Haakonsen boycotted the Nagano Olympics because he thought the judging was unfair and that the snowboarded who did participate had “sold out” to the establishment. Nagano is responsible for the wave of interest in the new sport. Snowboarding’s addition to the Olympic lineup has helped make a silk purse out of sow’s ear and clean up ‘boarders defiant reputation without harming their edgy flair. If you are interested in how to snowboard take a look.

Firstly, read. Get all the information your can about safety. Snowboarding especially snowboard tricks leads in outdoor sporting injuries. This statistic is heavily debated but no matter, everyone agrees that the sport is hard on the body. You should also consider your own fitness level and whether or not you feel your body can take the abuse. Approach the sport with an eye for safety and you can minimize injuries. Look into a certified snowboarding instructor. It is well worth the money to capitalize on a certified instructor’s knowledge of the sport and his or her experience.

Secondly, consider your budget for equipment. Spend a goodly part of your budget on the safety equipment. Boards can cost upwards $600 so don’t blow your wad there and not leave money for a helmet and set of pads. You will always look at new boards but you will depend on a good helmet and set of hip and knee pads to lessen the abuse on your body. You will need a leash for your board as well. And, I cannot stress this enough, a large bottle of ibuprofen and I am sure I do not have to tell you what that is for. If you don’t know then you shouldn’t attempt learning this extreme sport

Where you live is a consideration for this sport. If you live in the Mohave then it is going to be more difficult for you to get slope time since you will have to travel for snowy parts to take advantage of snowboarding. You could think about sand boarding instead. Any extra travel time will only reduce the amount of time and money you get to spend on doing what you really want to do so seriously evaluate your local weather. This sport, like all others, requires practice and your weather should not be an impediment to getting as much practice as you can.

Freeride, freestyle and freecarve are three methods that are offered in snowboarding. Make a decision on which you want to start out with and stay with it until you are good then go onto the others.

Have a friend take videos of your progress and you can do the same for him/her. Who knows! Maybe you can be the next Youtube star. It is also a fun way to catalogue your personal progress. It can also be a gift for mom on Mother’s Day. Show her what she has been spending all that money on. At first you videos will be very funny since it chronicles more foibles than anything else.

Read about snowboard lessons and camps in “Future Snowboarding”. They may hold many in your area and give plenty of snowboarding tips. These magazines can be very helpful. Getting instruction from a variety of trainers is useful as well as learning from other like minded students.

Gearup and hit the slopes. Hope to see you careening by. Be a snowboarding maniac. The sport is here to stay.

Home turf is a consideration as well. Can you get to a snowboarding area easily? Excess travel time will just cut into your practice time and budget. Learning snowboarding tricks requires lots of time and effort. Why waste the little time you have getting to and from the slopes? You might consider sand boarding.

Freeride, freestyle and freecarve are three methods that are offered in snowboarding. Make a decision on which you want to start out with and stay with it until you are good then go onto the others.

Video taping your exploits on the slope is a good idea. Trade off with your friend; you tape him/her and he/she will tape you. It is a fantastic way to record your successes on the slopes and to evaluate your technique or lack of. Post them on myspace or youtube. They are sure to be very funny. Mum might want a copy too so that she can see the drain that her money is going down.

Snowboard camps and snowboard lessons are offered through “Future Snowboarding” and these could be very helpful especially if you are interested in freestyle snowboard. Learning at the same time as other novice students can teach you a lot of what to do as well as what NOT to do. Generally a variety of instructors will be offered and you will benefit from different teaching approaches too. Check out other snowboarding mags too for snowboard lessons in you area.

Well get on the slopes. Give freestyle snowboarding a chance. Tear them up. Don’t get hurt. It is a great sport that is here to stay.

Success isn’t something you’re born into; it’s something to strive to reach with every step you make. Bonnie St. John knows that fact all too well. When she trips over a step, she gets back up again. The stereotypes out there say she shouldn’t be a success, but she became a successful Olympic skier anyway.

Bonnie St. John grew up a poor black girl from a broken home in San Diego. To make matters worse, she only had one leg. The other was amputated when she was only five years old. She had no money and no snow, but she wanted to be a skier. To her advantage, her mother encouraged this crazy dream.

People will tell you that black people never ski, swim, or play golf, but this is 100% untrue. Sure there are a few big names out there like Tiger Woods, but in reality, there are a lot of black people involved in these sports. One of Bonnie’s motivations from a very early age was to do her best so that others could be motivated by her.

A friend from school invited Bonnie to go skiing when they were both just children, and it changed her life forever. Bonnie St. John was the kid nobody liked. She was exempt from PE class, she rode a special bus, and she was teased at recess. Barbara Warmath was different, though. She didn’t tease. She encouraged.

Bonnie St. John’s friend invited her in early November to accompany the family on the Christmas ski trip. That gave her only a few short weeks to come up with the money and ski gear to be able to go. With the help of odd jobs, the Yellow Pages, and the Salvation Army, she was ready!

Skiing proved harder than even Bonnie St. John could have imagined. She was constantly falling down as she fought with the prosthetic leg. She didn’t know what equipment to buy, so her knit mittens left her fingers cold and met. None of it mattered, though. Bonnie was having the time of her life!

Later, Bonnie St. John joined the Ski Club so that she could obtain the appropriate ski gear and take skiing lessons. She was able to meet and race with many other amputees as well. The more she raced, the more she realized how much she enjoyed the challenge. She decided to train for the U.S. Olympic Ski Team.

We can all be successful, no matter what the challenge we face. Some people have harder barriers to break than others, and some people are more creative at breaking those barriers than others, but in the end, we all have the same chance. Never give up. Never let your dreams die. Get up when you fall, and have patience.

Success isn’t something you’re born into; it’s something to strive to reach with every step you make. Bonnie St. John knows that fact all too well. When she trips over a step, she gets back up again. The stereotypes out there say she shouldn’t be a success, but she became a successful Olympic skier anyway.

Bonnie St. John grew up very poor. She was a black girl from San Diego being raised by a single mother. Worse still, she was an amputee. Her leg was taken from her when she was five years old. Although she had no money and no snow, she longed to be a skier. Her mother actually encouraged her in this crazy idea.

Bonnie has always been motivated to succeed by her desire to see others motivated by her. She grew up hearing the same lies we all hear: blacks don’t ski; blacks don’t swim; blacks don’t play golf. All black people can do is play basketball or football. These stereotypes are simply not true at all. Today, Bonnie joins over ten thousand African-American ski club members every other year for a convention.

Before her days of fame, when she was just a kid, a classmate named Barbara Warmath invited Bonnie to go on a family ski trip during the Christmas break. It was a moment of dreams. Bonnie was the kid everyone either teased or didn’t notice. She rode a special bus and was exempt from PE classes. This was the chance of a lifetime.

Through the Ski Club, Bonnie St. John was later able to get appropriate ski attire and begin ski lessons. She found other amputees who weren’t only skiing, they were racing. Bonnie joined in the fun and decided that still wasn’t enough. She wanted to train for the U.S. Olympic Ski Team.

Anyone can have success in their life. Each of us has our own obstacles to overcome. Some are tougher than others, but all can be achieved with some creativity and determination. Never give up on your passions. Live your life to the fullest, and get up each time you fall.
