Don’t Lose Sleep Trying to Find Hotel Bedding

Be aware. Almost all the bedding suppliers say they have “hotel quality bedding,” but most of the time it’s just a bunch of fluff.

When you’re looking for new bedding, here’s what make genuine hotel bedding different from the rest:

Make sure the bedding is from a 5 star hotel. Top hotels know their reputation rest on the comfort of their bedding. They need pillows, comforters and sheets that are soft, with durable fabric to last through thousands of wash cycles.

They’re thicker – with over 550 fill power of goose down feathers, a hotel collection down comforter has quality insulation all year round. Look for barrier weave technology that keeps the down from leaking over time. A good fabric will have a tight and durable weave.

Pillows made for hotel standards have to deliver premium softness under the roughest conditions. Unlike typical pillows, hotel collection pillows have two layers: one soft feather pillow with a second surround layer of down feather cushion. This double layer system allows the pillow to maintain its shape over time, without compromising its softness.

When it comes to bed sheets, don’t be fooled by outrageous thread count numbers. It’s common for bedding manufacturers to produce sheets with a high pick/ply method, which give them a higher thread count. This sounds great, but sometimes it actually yields a lower quality product because it adds weight and a rough texture.

You’ll find that hotel standard bed sheets are normally made with a single pick/ply method that allows for a light and soft product. While a single pick/ply bed sheet can have a maximum thread count of 400 threads per square inch, the overall product can be much softer and stronger than a sheet with 1000-thread count.

Keep a sharp eye for copycats. There’s a lot of imitators out there, but when you do the research to find the best hotel bedding, you may never want to leave your room again.
