International Students Top Ten Best US Cities to Visit
As an international student you may wonder how you can see the USA on a limited time schedule and with limited finances. The US is a geographically large area with so many things to see. It may be challenging to decide which places and areas to visit while here. Many students choose cities that are the most unique, have the most history, and the most fun America style.
At Boston Academy of English we love to dispense advice on what to see and how to see it. So the following is one man’s opinion on the top 10 US cities for international travelers:
1. New York City, “The Big Apple”
How can you not visit the Big Apple? It is a truly extreme city, featuring the best, the worst, the most luxurious, the tallest skyscrapers – it is uniquely American although it is supremely international. I find the only fallacy is that New Yorkers are rude; they are very busy and not very patient, but also can be helpful and outgoing.
2. America’s capital, Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. is home to more national treasures and monuments than any other city in the US. Washington is home to the “Mall” featuring symmetrical displayed galleries, museums, and monuments that are relatively free of charge. Take time to visit Washington D.C. while in the US.
3. Boston
Boston is one city that has it all. In the greater Boston area alone there are more college students per capita than any other city in the US. There are more than 100 colleges and universities and it is rumored that English is spoken best here. Boston is known for having a European vibe and the absolute best time to visit is the summer or fall when the energy in the air is addictive as is the foliage.
4. “Only in San Francisco”
Cool fog on a hillside, hot restaurants to explore while roaming through ecelctic neighborhood, diverse cultures to experience. This is San Francisco and this is one of the most beautiful cities in the US. There are numerous tourist attractions and tourist find that there is a calm, laid back attitude of the people who live there which makes it a welcoming place to visit.
5. The Windy City, Chicago
Chicago is a city with it’s roots deeply planted in the heart of music. Chicago is a large city with superb restaurants and sophisticated amenities all while maintaining the small town feel with their friendliness. Chicago is a great middle point to visit on your trip across the US from West to East coast.
6. Los Angeles
LA offers many classic movie scenes as you drive the coast on your way to Hollywood, Rodeo Drive, or Beverly Hills. Just be sure to have a car with air conditioning and a whole lot of patience to navigate your way around. It is a great area with a lot to do. Just be sure to hit the beaches of Santa Monica for some mellow time while hustling to see it all.
7. Miami, Florida
Unbelievable beaches in a tropical environment year round, Miami located in Southern Florida is full of Latin American flair all without needing a passport. Try out Little Havana for some “Ropa Veija” and authentic Cuban dish you will not soon forget.
8. Orlando, Florida
Not so much a city as a “Theme park destination” (that’s how they market themselves), this place is for you if have a Disney fascination or just love high-adrenalin thrill rides at Universal Studios or Sea World. Very exciting and also exhausting, don’t come here to relax.
9. Las Vegas, Nevada
This city actually never sleeps or at least you don’t have to if you don’t want to. There is something to do all night long straight until morning. The playground for adults you don’t even have to take your chances with the tables or slots as there is so much to do in the hotels alone. A desert city, the temperatures tend to get hot (pushing 100 degrees F) in the day and drop at night. Bring a jacket, some fancy clothes, and a whole lot of money.
10. San Diego
With its great weather, miles of sandy beaches, and major attractions, San Diego is known worldwide as one of the best tourist destinations for people of all ages and form all backgrounds. Known for any things but you cannot visit here without visiting the best zo in the country.
Buon viaggio!(Italian) Have a good trip!
