Computer System Was First at National Car Rental

by Kurt Schefken

For its entire history National Car Rental has made the direct decision to be an industry leader, in size and customer service. The company itself began in an unusual way and since its inception has prided itself on cutting edge service and business strategy.

In 1947, 24 independent car rental agencies, no franchises, and none affiliated or owned by any well-known or established companies came together. These independent owners realized the truth to the strength in numbers game, and decided they were stronger as a working unit, than as competitors. The group came together to join forces with more than 60 sites and 800 automobiles. Over the next 12 years, there were more companies and locations added, and the corporation National Car Rental was born.

National Car Rental has always prided itself on being an industry leader. In fact, many of the car rental agency’s own business strategies have become the national standard. It was National Car Rental that introduced both one-way rentals, as well as becoming the first company to use a computer system to do their daily reservations.

Baby Name Trends are Based on Traditions

by Edie Mindell

This year, the hottest trends for baby naming are quite a bit unusual. From biblical names with a twist to foreign names, 2009 sets a whole new pattern for naming babies. Name meanings and history are important to consider when naming a baby, since that name will be something that will be with them for the rest of their lives. Although name definitions are the first things one usually looks at when choosing the perfect name for a baby, following name trends has become very common in todays society. Year 2008 keeps a little bit of the traditional element in popular baby names, but also integrates modern style, a retro factor, and an unusual touch.

As it has been established for the past few years, biblical traditional names are some of the most popular. Jacob, Joshua, Abigail, Daniel, and Gabriel are some names that have been prevalent in recent times. A few uncommon additions to these common biblical names are those such as Caleb, Ethan, Zachary, and Elijah. The name “Elijah” is actually one of the most popular names this year. Many people hold true to biblical names because they are classic, and they usually have a beautiful, deep meaning that professes great things for your babys life.

An interesting trend this year is for Western parents to give their children foreign names. Spanish, Asian, Italian, Irish, and Arab names have become quite popular amongst North Americans and the English. Carlos, a Spanish name meaning “free man,” Connor, an Irish name that stands for “much wanted,” and Lian, a Chinese name whose meaning is a “lotus flower,” are some of the most widespread foreign names that have gone global.

The family unit is a very important unit. Those nations in which people still prefer to live as a family are more peaceful, and the crime rate is less in those countries.

Still, the countries which do not have the culture in which lots of importance is given to the family unit are richer and economically more stable as people become independent in those cultures and everyone has to earn to support by themselves.

f every one. The experiences you have with your family are the determining factors which make up your personality. Family unit is important in more than one sense. It is a very important part of the culture. We can see different types of family units existing in different parts of the world. The importance and value of a united family unit has changed from the past. Now the life we spend as a family is very different from what a family spent some five decades back.
